Frosty Reception for Leominster, MA Snowman Display

A large flashing snowman situated in front of the firefighters
memorial has some folks giving the frosty character the
cold shoulder.

As reported on telegram.com news site, A flashy snowman that
is part of a holiday display at Monument Square has firefighters
feeling a little blue and the mayor promising to look for a better
spot for Frosty next year.

“I think it's awesome, I like the decorations,” Firefighter Ryan S. Young said.

“My kids make me drive by it all the time. But I just feel that maybe
there was a lack of good judgment about where they put it.”

The snowman and two trees that blink wildly to the sound of music stand
directly in front of the town's firefighters' memorial. And this year,
with three Massachusetts firefighters dying in the line of duty in December,
the subject of the memorial is especially sensitive.

He said it stands in a spot that makes it difficult to see the firefighters'
monument, and after the death of Worcester Firefighter Jon D. Davies Sr.
on Dec. 8, firefighters talked about putting black bunting on the memorial
but it appeared the snowman would hamper their efforts.

Mayor Dean J. Mazzarella said last night the snowman has been erected
near the monument during the holidays since 2009. It's very popular, he said.
That year, area businesses spent about $3,500 on the snowman and sound
system, which includes speakers. People driving past may also hear the
music on their car radios.

“It brings a lot of joy to a lot of people,” he said. “And I'd hate to lose it.
You can't imagine how many people pull up to see it.”

The mayor said he'll try to come up with a better site for the snowman.

“I can understand their point,” he said. “We have another whole year.
We'll try to find another place for it.”

Snowman Phobias?

A furry snowman with legs seems to have at least one
British citizen in tears this holiday.

As reported by the Huffington Post this holiday weekend,
The Speakman's, the UK's foremost leading experts on changing peoples'
lives (in part by humiliating them in public) appeared on ITV's "This Morning" show
to help a woman named Sharnie overcome her fear of snowmen.

Not abominable snowmen, or even dangerously icy snowmen.
A fabric snowman.

The segment is called "Festive Phobias with the Speakmans."
