Welcome to Bischofsgrün...home of the very giant snowman, Jakob, built at the 30th Bischofsgrün Snowman Festival.
Every year the small town of Bischofsgruen in Fichtelgebirge, Germany, builds the giant snowman Jakob. The town is situated 680 meters above
sea level, between the two highest peaks of Northern Bavaria, the
Schneeberg and the Ochsenkopf.
This year's festival took place
on February 16th. The new record Snowman stands at 12.65 meters (41 feet, 6 inches) in height and 29.80 meters (approx 97 feet and 6 inches) in circumference.

The celebration unfolded on Carnival Monday with an open-air party, complete with a doughnut-eating contest and torchlit procession.
The work on Germany's biggest 'real' snowman started three days before the event began. You can how Jakob the Thirtieth is took shape here at the time lapse photo at the bottom of the page.
You can also see the current status of Jakob here at the live market square webcam.
